TV Advertisement Evaluation

Create your own user feedback survey

Our task for this assignment was to re-brand a Unilever product. Our product that we chose to re-brand was Lynx. It was aimed at 13-18 year old aspirers who are looking for friends/partners.
Before I was placed in my group I originally chose. So choosing this as our product made it very easy to chose and made it very easy to work with. We aimed to target this towards 18-25 year old aspirers who are looking for a better life and being comfortable with there life. We used Tom Ford private blend as our inspiration for our unisex Lynx fragrance. We thought it was a very good and different idea which is why we created our own.

I collected feedback on my finished advert in 3 different ways. I got one piece of feedback from my peers as they watched the advert and gave direct feedback to me. I also got tutor feedback from Ellie as she watched and assessed the video that we made and gave us constructive criticism. Lastly we filled out a survey on SurveyMonkey and asked questions about it such as 'Does the advert to make the product appeal to you?' Most of the people believed the the advert appealed to them and making them want to buy the product.
I believe that my advert managed to get the main message across to my target audience and that my advert has had an appropriate impact on them. In the feedback, the people who were targeted by me advert and re-branding campaign gave mainly positive feedback on it saying the advert appealed to them and made them want to buy the product. One thing that a peers thought we did well was the range of shots and how smooth our camera movements were. This was thanks to all of our group as at one point we all filmed at least a couple of scenes.
They also liked the colour scheme of our bottle. We asked around and what people thought looked most classy was black and silver or black and gold. So in the end we chose black and silver; our peers really liked the look of this. One last thing they liked was the duration of our advert. they thought it was long enough but not so long that it dragged and got boring.
The fact it's unisex also means that anyone could get lucky. This works because people in the age group of 18-25 nine times out of ten are looking to find a partner and maybe even settle down.
I think the message that came across with this advert is like most the lynx products. This message is that you are sure to find love if you were to purchase this product. It sends this message but with the twist of more class than the other lynx products due to the fact it is a fragrance and not just deodorant spray.
The technical and physical aesthetics qualities of my advert are shown in the flow of the camera shots and our characters.
I think we got the message of our advert across very well and people understood what the product was. I think it would have a very good impact on them. We tried to stick to the pre-production work as much as we could so that the message would be as clear as possible. If the viewer was feeling lonely it would push them to purchase the product and go looking for a partner confidently. So I do think the impact to the viewer will be very positive.
Our product successfully sells the product to the specified target through its narrative as the characters that were used also reflected t the target market for both our product and our advert. The use of young actors will appeal to my target audience as they can relate to them. The persuasive techniques that we used to sell the product became very effective as the making of the advert went on. One of the persuasion techniques that we used was to give a vote of confidence to the audience. The advert portrays a young man able to get a girl (or the other way around) just by using the fragrance, making them vaguely believe that it is possible. I wanted to tell teen audiences that spraying Lynx is not just for boys so I used male and female actors and hip/colloquial music to appeal to them in the hope that both male and female audiences would identify with them.
I feel my advert is fit for purpose. It not only looks professional, but it also complies with advert regulations such as Harm and offense regulations as well as Privacy regulations.
Finally I think that the advert in itself looks professional and edited together very well. There is no major with the advert overall although the sound was added in very late towards the deadline. We all made sure that it met the regulations of showing times. We also went over BCAP and made sure that everything was within the rules and regulations.

AIDA
A- The potential customer was male and females in the age bracket of 18-25 years old. We let the audience know this because of the actors in the advert.
I- We created interest because we targeted both sexes by doing this at the end of the advert using the tagline 'for him and for her'
D- We tried to make the ad so that the audience would desire the product because when we shot the opening scene it was in a middle class type bedroom so for him to then use the product can make it appeal to certain people.
A- The way we tried to make the audience buy the product straight was by showing them what can happy as when the actor and actress bump into each other they seem happy to see each other so the audience might think it will work for them.

Overall, i believe that the advert was rather well done considering the lack of experience that our group had in filming. Although as with anything, improvements can be made, i am very proud of this particular project and also proud of how the team worked. I feel my advert is fit for purpose. It not only looks professional, but it also complies with advert regulations such as Harm and offense regulations as well as Privacy regulations.

  1. Dean, this is very brief and is lacking in detail although you have managed to reflect on your experiences.

You need to add detail generally but specifically about what others thought and then back up their points with screenshots where relevant. You also need to say whether you conformed to the ASA BCAP code and again, add print screens, this time of relevant sections of the code.
